Which Coffee Works in a Moka Pot?

A moka pot rewards sweetness and body, so reach for medium to darker roasts with chocolate, caramel and nut notes. Brazil Origin from our partners at COFFEELAB is a dark roast from Minas Gerais packed with milk chocolate and cocoa. HAYB Brazil is a medium roast from Cerrado with sweet caramel and almonds, and Chocolate Bomb from COFFEE PLANT brings milk chocolate and nuts.

Moka Without the Burnt Taste

A burnt taste in a moka usually comes down to heat and tired beans. Use fresh coffee, fill the base with hot water, keep the heat low and take the pot off the stove as soon as it starts to sputter. Handle it like that and even a darker roast stays sweet. The full routine is in our moka pot guide.

Grinding for the Moka Pot

Grind medium-fine, coarser than espresso and finer than a V60. Pre-ground espresso is usually too fine and can clog the pot, so grind fresh, which also keeps the sweetness you paid for. Need gear? The Bialetti Moka Express 6tz is in our range, and our grind size guide has starting points for hand grinders.
