The story:
Our partners at Nomad Coffee call the Gahahe washing station in Kayanza a flagship project, and it is easy to see why. Around 1,740 smallholders deliver Red Bourbon grown at 1800 MASL. Cherries are floated, depulped within six hours, dry fermented, then soaked in mountain water. The result is a washed lot with real community backing, through programs like Farmer Hub.
The taste:
Floral from the first sniff, then mandarin brings a juicy, sparkling acidity. Roasted pineapple shows up in the middle with a caramelised sweetness that keeps the cup from going too sharp. Silky body, clean finish, and a lingering citrus sweetness that makes the next sip feel like a good idea.
The feeling:
Made for the V60 or the Chemex, where the floral top notes get room to breathe. Brew it a little hotter if you want the pineapple to push forward. Perfect for slow weekend mornings, for anyone who likes their coffee bright and pretty, and a solid pick if you are curious about what Burundi can do in a filter.
